Doodlebug Swiss Dots Cascading Heart Scrapbook Layout

Hello there!  I'm over on the Doodlebug blog today with a layout using all the beautiful new Swiss Dot Petite Prints.  I wanted to find a way to use this wonderful new basic to create my own custom color scheme and I've had these photos of my daughter that I've never been able to find just the right papers for.  By pairing the swiss dot papers with some of Doodlebug's other great basics I was able to achieve the look I was after.

I decided it would be fun to have the heart cascade across the background to match the hearts in my daughter's shirt so I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut them out on my 12x12 background and then back them with the papers.

To ground my title I cut out a large over-sized banner and the word "new" on my Silhouette to pair with Doodlebug's Skinny alphabet cardstock stickers.  I then stitched around the two layers and sandwiched foam tape between them to create extra depth.

I hope I've inspired you to create a custom color scheme of your own using these yummy swiss dot papers that come in a rainbow of colors!

My "Live Inspired" Podcast Interview with Tracie Claiborne

I hope you all are having a wonderful holiday weekend!  I just wanted to pop in and share that my "Live Inspired" interview with Tracie Claiborne is now live at her blog.  I share a bit more about how I went about starting Sunny Studio and a little bit about my design process.

I hope you will stop by for a listen.  Tracie is such a sweetheart and she has so many inspiring guests each week.  I've become an avid listener--It's so fun to listen while I work or craft.

This week she's also offering a special discount code for her readers to the Sunny Studio store, as well as a special stamp giveaway (listen to the podcast for details).

Before I leave I want to apologize for the echo for my portion of the conversation.  I'm embarrassed to admit I had to huddle under my desk with a microphone because the cord wouldn't reach up to my desk top & I realize now that wasn't such a smart idea.  So sorry...  ;)

Doodlebug Pot O' Gold Frog Themed Scrapbook Layout

Hi there!  Yesterday I share a layout on the Doodlebug blog featuring a fun everyday twist on their new Pot O' Gold collection.  As soon as I spotted the frogs on the icon sticker sheet I knew I had to create a fun monochromatic layout for these photos I've been holding onto.

To show off all the great prints in this collection I decided to cut a number of scalloped borders in several of the patterns using Doodlebug's Eyelet Lace and Scallops border die by Sizzix. I adhered the die-cut borders to a piece of piece of scratch cardstock and overlaid the finished piece with a 12x12 white cardstock background which I had cut a heart from using my Silhouette Cameo.  To give it a polished look I then stitched around the heart with my sewing machine.

When I had all my journaling printed into strips I realized it would be covering up the very scallops that I had spent so much time creating so I chose to cut them into individual words and adhere them to the perimeter of the heart with a glue pen.  By cutting them up I was able to hug the curves of the heart.  It took a bit more time, but I'm really pleased with the finished results and how it solved my problem.

I just adore the sweet little frogs in this collection!  To dress them up I popped some up with foam tape and added beetle black sprinkles to the centers of their eyes!  I love how these small touches brought them to life!  I hope I've inspired you to look at some of your holiday collections with fresh eyes.  ;)
